University of Oxford Medicine Interview

Oxford interviews online as traditional academic panels. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed by two colleges, each panel having at least two academics and at least one practising clinician. It runs like a short tutorial — an "academic conversation" built around scientific reasoning, data interpretation, ethics and motivation. In recent years about 425 applicants (roughly a quarter of the field) are interviewed.

How the interview feeds your offer

Shortlisting combines UCAT, GCSEs, contextual data and predicted/achieved grades. The final ranking then folds in interview scores from both colleges — roughly three in four interviewees do not receive an offer.

How your college affects the interview

  • Medicine interviews are held online for 2027 entry, whichever colleges you are seen by.
  • You are interviewed at two colleges — your chosen college (or one allocated to you, if you made an open application) plus a second allocated at random. Some applicants are given a third interview because another college wants to consider them.
  • Selection criteria are identical across all colleges and a single central shortlist is used, so applying to a "less competitive" college gives no real advantage.
  • Roughly 425 of about 1,150 Medicine applicants are interviewed; the outcome is released via UCAS on 12 January 2027.
